A Cycle of Support

A Cycle of SupportMore than 1,200 LexisNexis volunteers took just three hours recently to assemble and decorate 210 bicycles for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley in Phoenix, Arizona. It marked the largest LexisNexis Cares event ever.

The volunteers, attendees at a national sales meeting along side invited guests, built the bikes as part of a growing LexisNexis tradition of using company gatherings as an opportunity to give back to communities through projects that make a difference in the daily lives of people everywhere. Approximately 87 teams assembled and decorated the bicycles.  The Boys & Girls Club then raffled off the new bikes to club members based on attendance, grades and attitude.

A Cycle of Support"For some of the children, this was their very first bike," said Selene Edmunds, Director of LexisNexis Cares. "For others, it is their family's only form of transportation. We have fathers who use the bikes to get to work while their kids are at school."

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley serves approximately 14,700 youths per year throughout 12 locations, including two on Native American reservations. Tim Angst, Vice President, Business Partner Relations, added that is was "a privilege to be affiliated with an organization that has this type of impact on both the graduation rates and drug use for these kids and on the entire community."
